Wybourn Council School (as it was known) was opened on Thursday 3rd October 1929 by Alderman Harry Bolton J.P the Lord Mayor of the time. Built for the grand total of £30,473 by H Teanby Ltd of Sheffield, it was originally a joint senior and junior school. There were 432 junior school children and 380 senior children. The headteacher of the senior school was Mr A.E. Linfoot and Mr A Siddall was headteacher of the junior school.

The school caters for children ranging in age from Nursery up to Year 6 with a strong ethos on achievement and enjoyment in all areas of learning.
Every half term we hold a special assembly to celebrate the children's achievements.
Individuals, clubs, teams and classes who have been involved in many of the School's ongoing activities are able to share their successes of the term. Children who work and push themselves to achieve throughout the half term receive green cards, if they manage to collect 10 or more (and many do!) they earn a prize presented by Mrs Bradshaw in front of the whole school, family and friends.
